Did
You Know?
This
is the first American generation in history which, given health and
obesity statistics and trends, is living sicker and may die younger than
the previous generation (see “A
Nation At Risk” Obesity in the United States,
a Statistical Sourcebook created by the Robert Wood Johnson
Foundation and the American Heart Association). We are in the middle of a serious national health crisis.
Given that, we must take action to educate and motivate our
children to learn about the feeding and care of their bodies.
Change comes through practice. If practice is fun, change can feel effortless.

Eat
Well!
Several
years ago while sorting through my father’s belongings, I came
across an old dinner bell. There
was nothing really remarkable about it other than the fact it had
been used by my great-grandmother in her home in Kansas.
Rather than stuffing it back in the box, I placed it on the
windowsill in my kitchen and had my youngest ring it to call
everyone to dinner that night.
And, that’s when the magic began.
Now when the bell rings, it signals that pause in our day
where we come together as a family and enjoy eating and just being
together. - Miss
Amy
Research
from Washington
State University, Cooperative Extension, the Nutrition Education
Network of Washington, and USDA Food and Nutrition Service
supports the
fact that children and teenagers who eat with their family 3 or more
times a week do better in school. |
